With the new iMac Pro, Apple not only introduced the fastest Mac ever build, but also the most advanced desktop class machine in terms of security. The data on the iMac is encrypted on the fly by the new T2 chip, which also acts as a central controller for various subsystems on the computer, such as audio, system management and disk I/O.
Reporting for Macworld Jason Snell sees this as the start of a new era for the Mac:
The iMac Pro may be an outlier today, but in the future we’ll probably look back on it as the start of a new era for the Mac, all because of the Apple-built T2 chip it carries inside.
